Eligibility:
- When you register as a participant for the Research Symposium, you will be asked if you wish to be considered for oral presentation.
- Students will be notified after their abstract has been submitted that they have been selected for oral presentation.
- These students will be featured during the Oral Presentations session of the symposium instead of presenting their poster.
Submitting your oral presentation:

- Further details about preparation and submission of the oral presentation (via PowerPoint) will be presented at the time entrants are notified of their selection.
- Oral presentations must be submitted no later than November 14 (5:00 PM CST). No oral presentations will be accepted after the submission deadline.
Where & when you will present:
- You will be notified via email about your oral presentation time and location before you present it Thursday afternoon on November 21.
- Please sign in at the registration/sign-in desk upon arrival for the event and notify the desk staff that you are an oral presenter for the symposium. You are strongly encouraged to arrive for the symposium at least 30 minutes before the event’s starting time. You should plan to attend the entire session in which you are presenting. Additional instructions will be provided prior to the event day at the email address you provided when you registered for the event.
Who will present:
- If the work is co-authored, only one of the co-authors will present. The faculty mentor for the students will determine who the presenting co-author will be.
- If a presenting author cannot participate due to illness or other extenuating circumstances, one of the remaining co-authors, at the direction of the faculty mentor, will assume responsibility for the podium presentation.
During the Research Symposium:
- During the podium presentation, presenters will speak for five minutes, followed by three minutes of Q&A, with questions from audience members.
- Timekeeping and other instructions will be provided to the presenters prior to the session.
Judging:
- A panel of judges will evaluate oral presentations for scientific merit and presentation quality.
- Outstanding oral presentation will be recognized and receive a certificate of recognition.
- Participants who are selected to receive an award should be present at the award ceremony.
