Path Forward: Technology-Driven and Patient-Centered
The Des Moines University (DMU) Research Symposium is a forum for scholars to present what they have learned and discovered through their research experiences and to engage the larger community in discussion on cutting-edge research and health topics through poster displays and podium presentations.
We are excited to announce that our keynote speaker with be Yogesh Shah, M.D., MPH, FAAFP, Medical Director of the Memory Clinic at Broadlawns Medical Center. Dr. Shah was the Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2023). He will present "Path Forward: Data Driven Strategies for Better Dementia Diagnosis and Care" at the keynote address. This year, the research symposium is open to DMU faculty, staff and students, as well as sponsors and members of the larger medical and scientific community in the region. Individuals from Iowa higher education institutions will be able to submit their posters for this competitive event.
Debuting this year as part of the symposium is the Young Scientist Program, which is geared toward students in grades 9-12 and will take place from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. This program is aimed to stir the curiosity of young scientific minds and provide opportunities for students to engage in interactive activities; students in grade 11-12 will be invited to showcase their posters.
The event allows us to celebrate the success of student, faculty and staff scholars whose work demonstrates the critical role research plays in advancing health care and producing new hypotheses. DMU’s core research vision is to cultivate distinctive scholars who collaboratively generate, apply and integrate new knowledge. This year, the symposium is in-person and showcases a keynote speaker, a networking roundtable, oral and poster presentations, and an award ceremony including live musical entertainment and other fun activities. The oral and poster presentations will cover topics in anatomy and paleontology, biomedical science, clinical research, education research, movement science, and public health in the health sciences. We are pleased you are joining us for DMU’s 2024 Research Symposium. This will be the second DMU research symposium at our new campus—and the first one at this location that includes our community partners. Our university proudly honors its multifaceted mission to improve lives in our global community by educating diverse groups of highly competent and compassionate health professionals. Our 15th symposium year is an extraordinary milestone demonstrating our continuous commitment to research and scholarship in all its forms. Thank you to all the presenters for sharing their work and to students, faculty, staff and collaborators for joining us for this special event.
